New Article Type! 5 Takeaways
We are now introducing a new article type, called “5 Takeaways”. The idea is that you would read a book or an article, listen to a podcast, or watch a video, and then summarize for the readers of The FLTMAG the 5 (or you can choose a different number) best or most interesting or most useful ideas that you took away from what you learned. The goal of these pieces is to help people decide whether they would like to read/listen/watch the text in question, or to help share information about a variety of texts, since we can’t all read and listen to everything!
If you are a graduate student reading books, listening to podcasts, or watching videos for your coursework, a “5 Takeaways” piece can help you distill the main ideas (or, for a more in-depth evaluation, you could write a book review). If you are involved in teacher training, consider assigning “5 Takeaways” pieces to give your students publication experience while they complete their coursework. And if you are a professional in the field, use this opportunity as motivation to finally read that book on your shelf – and to learn from the insights others are discovering.
