This article provides a comprehensive and balanced overview of blended learning in language education. I particularly appreciate the clear distinction made between blended, flipped, and traditional face-to-face courses, as this is an area where confusion still exists among educators and administrators. The inclusion of teachers’ voices from different educational contexts (high school, community college, and university) adds strong practical value and makes the discussion grounded in real classroom experience. The emphasis on differentiation, student autonomy, and scheduling flexibility clearly illustrates why blended learning can be especially effective for diverse learner populations. At the same time, the article does not idealize the model and thoughtfully addresses challenges such as student self-regulation, increased front-end workload, and misconceptions about teacher effort. Overall, this piece convincingly argues that blended learning is not a shortcut or a trend but a pedagogically sound approach when supported by careful design, institutional support, and appropriate student preparation.

As a language acquisition teacher who meets her MS and HS students F2F, and also makes wide use of technology tools such as some of those mentioned in the article, a few points come to my mind:
-Equity: I assign as much work as possible in class, including activities that could be done individually at home, because I want to be respectful of the fact that some students may not have the opportunity to do homework in their free time (maybe they have to work, take care of siblings, etc). I am interested in learning how we can take this into account in a blended learning modality.
-Grading: as a teacher, I often struggle with deciding how many assignments should be graded, and what weight they should have. I do want to keep my students accountable, although sometimes I feel like grading a lot makes me micromanage their learning experience, which could become counterproductive. Any thoughts?

I also appreciated the reflection on how blended learning could be beneficial in helping open small classes of less "famous" languages. Being a teacher of Italian in the USA, my program sometimes faces this challenge. Thank you for the idea!

I am writing my reply in the context of India and from the lens of a blended learning program designed for educators (read learners). A readiness in learners is of utmost importance - being able to manage time, willingness to learn and alignment to the objectives of the program. In my experience I also see that blended learning is not a tool for motivation, but rather somewhat motivated learners can benifit better from this format. What I am wondering at the moment is... how do we think about the scalability of such a program or does it become an online program when scaled?

I agree, there are many technological tools that could be used. The problem is there are SO MANY it’s overwhelming to weed through all the fantastic websites and activities. These past three months, I felt more like tech support than anything. Using and adopting true student-centered practices could potentially be problematic, with students’ maturity levels and self-regulation. No matter how often I reminded my students not to wait until the last minute before something is due, there were always some that did. It depends on how old your students are (and the teachers if I’m being honest). I know some of my colleagues were VERY hesitant to move to distance learning due to their ineptitude or unwillingness to learn and use the available tools.

Blended learning is and essential 21st century skill that all teachers should try to acclimate themselves and their classes to. We the use of tools available so readily now, it should be something that is attainable for all progressive teachers. I do wonder about the hindrance that it causes for educators

Incorporating Blended Language Learning (BLL) into my teaching methodology as an ADVETI health teacher has greatly improved my students' educational experience. Through the combination of traditional in-person education and online learning, BLL enables me to provide a more adaptable and stimulating learning environment. This method makes it possible for students to go through course materials and other resources at their own speed, which helps them comprehend and remember difficult health ideas. Furthermore, BLL accommodates a variety of learning preferences by providing interactive online exercises and multimedia materials that appeal to both aural and visual learners. Through the use of BLL, I am able to offer students individualized feedback and guidance, assisting them in developing their language proficiency as they grasp vital health issues. This all-encompassing strategy improves their academic achievement and gets them ready for situations where digital proficiency and health literacy are crucial.

I view blended learning as a highly effective approach, combining the best of face-to-face and online methods. It offers flexibility, accommodating diverse student needs and promoting personalized learning, which enhances engagement and outcomes. It also fosters key skills like self-regulation and digital literacy, preparing students for modern challenges. Overall, blended learning is a transformative and inclusive educational model.

The article is an easy read, comprehensive for readers new to the topic. It addresses concerns and covers important concept and facts that a practitioner should learn about. I thought this sentence, to quote from the para on "Role of Teacher"-"The success of the blended classroom is heavily dependent on adequate student and teacher preparation but also on teachers’ willingness to adopt truly student-centered practices and embrace the use of various educational technology tools." is very important. It expressed the core conditions of Blended Learning (BL) which determines the effectiveness of BL.

I find the structure of a blended language course fascinating. Although I understands it is not suitable for everyone (teachers and students), I truly believe students benefit a lot from this kind of course and are able to learn even more than if they were taking only f2f classes.
